Instagram is a popular photo/video-sharing platform that has one billion monthly users. It is all about visual content and can be a great platform to market your business. Similar to Facebook Insights, Instagram Insights offers tons of useful information for your business’s Instagram account.
Fun fact: Did you know that Facebook owns Instagram?
In order to view analytics for your account, you will need to make sure you have a business account. If you already have an account, but can’t see any insights, you will have to convert to a business account.
Instagram Insights is great for small businesses who want to learn more about their audience and whether or not their content is performing well. There are other third-party tools that you can purchase that will give you more detailed analytics, but Insights is a good start and it’s free.
How to Best Use Instagram Insights
Access Insights by tapping the three lines in the top right corner of the Instagram app and selecting Insights. This is where you will find your overview of recent posts and stories and any promotions you may have run. You can also view the performance of each individual post by going to the post and tapping View Insights.
Important metrics you will want to track are Impressions, Reach, and Interactions. Are people seeing your posts? Are they interacting by liking, commenting, or visiting your profile? This is a helpful way to know if you’re posting the right kind of content. If you haven’t already been looking at analytics, start bench-marking now to see how you’re growing.
Instagram Insights also provides great demographic information under Audience. Here you will see your follower growth, the locations of your followers, age ranges, and gender. This is also where you will find the hours and days of the week that your followers are most active. When you are posting on Instagram, make sure you are referencing that information to capitalize on your Instagram success!
Here at AGC, we track engagement rates and audience demographics closely to make sure we are posting the right kind of content and that the target audience is seeing it. Instagram can be one of the more fickle social media platforms as any algorithm changes can cause big drops in reach and engagement. Instagram is also doing away with showing like counts, but businesses will always be able to see that in Insights. Checking your Insights regularly will help make sure you are staying on the right track with your content.
