UPDATE 9/16/2019
Thanks to our business partners and the generous donations of so many in our community, we loaded up a 16′ box truck and delivered it to Avid Warehouse over the weekend! These supplies will be sent to the people of Green Turtle Cay to support them during the long road ahead to rebuild.
Additionally, Reef+Ledge has started shipping the #BahamasStrong limited edition hoodies. We received ours and let me tell you, they are AMAZING. Included in our package was this insert which stated that they raised over $15,000 that is going to be donated to the Green Turtle Cay Foundation.
We cannot stress enough just how much work is ahead of the people of Green Turtle Cay. But, they are strong, resilient people and will rebuild to be back better than ever. They are focusing on clean-up & construction on the island as they want to make the island sustainable so residents can stay there/come back if they evacuate. The best way to continue to help is by donating to the Green Turtle Cay Foundation.
We’ll be sure to keep you updated on the status of the island and other ways that you can help as they rebuild. For now, we say THANK YOU for your generosity & support. We are truly overwhelmed and speechless by the amazing response of our community.
Friends,
I am writing this to you with a heavy heart. We’ve all seen the devastation that has taken place in the Abaco Islands from Hurricane Dorian.
Green Turtle Cay is a very special place to my husband, Taylor, and me. If you follow along on social media, you know that we were there last week just before the storm hit. In fact, we moved our departure up due to the incoming storm. We have grown to love the Island and its people.
Green Turtle Cay is an outer island from Abaco Island/Marsh Harbor. News is trickling in from this little island due to loss of power, no cell service, and from what we can tell VHF radios are down. The bit of news that we are receiving has come via sat phone. Some of the latest we’ve received is that little to no homes are habitable and that it is complete devastation. We are grateful that we have heard that there are no deaths.
We have been in contact with the Green Turtle Club as they have begun to assess the damage and how to best move forward with relief efforts for Green Turtle Cay. They have shared the items they desperately need as well as staging locations in West Palm Beach.
The Green Turtle Club has an established 501c3, The Green Turtle Cay Foundation. They have started a GoFundMe which is going to be used for relief supplies specifically for the residents of Green Turtle Cay. (All donations to the Foundation are tax-deductible. A link is provided at the end of this post).
In addition, we are working with businesses local to the Bradenton/Sarasota area to establish donation drop-offs. We will then take the items to the Avid Warehouse in West Palm Beach on Saturday, September 14. As additional businesses volunteer, we will update this post.
